Great metal podcast!

I want to put up a post letting everyone know about an awesome metal podcast I found. For those of you that don't know what a podcast is, it is a broadcast that you can download and listen to on your mp3 player or computer. This is a fairly new media that is starting to get more popular. There are tons of metal podcasts out there, and I am a fan of several of them. My favorite by far is MetalsPeak. They focus on REAL metal and not all that post-hardcore breakdown shit. They bring up very good points about metal and the metal culture and play some great tunes.

One of the podcast hosts is in a great band called Try Redemption. They are a great band on the black metal side. They stand out from other black metal bands and really are much better than most metal that's out there. I ask you to shell out a measly $9.00 and pick up their newest release "Resurrection of Reason" by clicking on the picture to the left to support this amazing underground band. The band is based in Colorado and I can't wait for them to tour and get over to the west coast.

This is a solid 8 out of 10 album! I strongly suggest you all go pick it up. Try Redemption has been featured on another metal podcast of lesser note called the ALLOY Podcast. I found the ALLOY Podcast while searching Try Redemption on iTunes and the podcast came up. I gave a listen to a few episodes and was not into it. Too much shitty music. MetalsPeak is superior by far!

I emailed the MetalsPeak podcast hosts and they emailed me back almost immediately. They love to include their listeners on the show and quite regularly have a segment dedicated to listener feedback. They always have some sort of interaction with listeners on their Facebook page. I appreciate people that make their metal public and can talk to their listeners and accept feedback. I would like to send a thank you out to MetalsPeak for inspiring me to start this blog. I have been a metal head for most of my life and always wanted to get into the industry in some way, the guys from MetalsPeak showed me that blogging is one way of doing that.

Check out the MetalsPeak site and podcast and check out the band Try Redemption.

Keep it metal!

Withered's "Dualitas"

Withered have been around for a few years and "Dualitas" is their third and most recent release. Released on Oct. 25, 2010 on Prosthetic Records, home to other such heavy hitters as Skeleton Witch, Testament and Beneath the Massacre, Dualitas is a perfect example of a great Death Metal release. It has a lot of doomy elements with just a little prog. Sludgier than most death metal, this really gives you the chance to explore the deeper side the genre. With 2 minute excursions into dark, droney grinding, exemplified by the Interlude and Residue in the Void, you are sure to find something to satisfy your metal blood lust. This album has elements of doom, grind, death and prog all wrapped up and boiled down to the heart of each creating a sonic schmorgisborg. Dualitas is a glaring example of what more metal records should be. Something that will attract fans of any sub-genre of metal and pull them in, thereby exposing them to other metallic styling that they may not have explored previously. This is perfect for the metal head that wants to expand their horizons and are segueing into heavier music. This let's you hear a snippet of what else metal has to offer, on many levels and without grabbing a bunch of different CD's to try out different sounds. What Withered have managed to do, is draw in fans of one genre, I will use death metal as an example, and say to the listener, "Hey, metal has alot to offer a metal head. You don't have to listen to just death metal, in fact, check out this doom stuff. Now here's some grind for ya!" but you aren't turned off by the presence of the other styling. So many bands that attempt to blend these sounds together tend to find that doom and grind are almost antithetical to each other by nature. Withered has managed to combine styles in a way that I wasn't sure would ever be done right.

I hope this review finds you and you enjoy the new Withered release "Dualitas." Clicking this link will take you to Amazon to purchase the album and support the band.

Stay Metal!

Welcome to the That's Not Metal Blog!

This is a place I plan on doing reviews for TRUE metal, not that hardcore/post-hardcore, "I have extra X's in my handle because it proves I'm cool" kind of metal. Only the most brutal makes it on here! I hope you like what I have to say. You're probably some pussy Twilight fan if you don't like it, so you can go to hell anyway.

I plan to blog on a semi-regular basis, maybe a couple times a week. Feel free to leave comments or email me. I will be making a Twitter page in the near future as well and will keep you all posted on new developements. So please Check back from time to time.

You may be wondering why a blog dedicated to True Heavy Metal is called That's Not Metal, well it is my response to people telling me that their favorite metal band is some shitty crabcore band when they see me wearing one of my numerous metal shirts! "I LOVE Miss May I!" is not the proper response to seeing my Faceless shirt! So I decided I wanted to make a blog dedicated to those people, talking about REAL metal.

Stay tuned! I am hoping to have my first review posted this week!
